On Thursday I went to visit an organisation called Bafope – Baghad Boys for Peace – this refers to a militia group known as the Baghdad boys, who are being transformed through this programme, involving teaching in conflict resolution, peace meetings and the arts. It was an impressive project. I also interviewed the leader of WIFIP Women in Fisheries Industries Project, which has empowered women from the nearby fishing community through income generation projects. An interesting way that the organisation raises funds is through the sale of goods made from the Water Hyacinth weed which is damaging to the fishing industry as it tends to clog up fishing beaches around Lake Victoria.
